The McLovin Shuffle
21 April, 2009 Posted by: McLovin
Hope you weren't in the mood for something mellow, 'cause it ain't happening today.
Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest For The Wicked
These guys remind me of a combination of Jack White, G Love, and some other third thing that rocks which I can't quite put my finger on. I kind of disagree with the sentiment of this song, though, because I took a nap just yesterday and I'm pretty sure Lemon sleeps in on Saturdays.
The Marvelous 3 - Freak of the Week
Man, I loved the music video for this. It's Career Day at some school - kids are introducing their firefighter moms and policeman dads. An adorable little blondie with a hella lotta attitude gets up and says "My brother's a wock stah!" And then Boom! Butch Walker in tattoos and guy liner. Hello.
Etta James - I'd Rather Go Blind
Classic. And hey! You can get this for free (along with some Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters) right here.
Lenny Kravitz - Lady
I've decided that the next time anyone gives me grief about my sweet little angel McMuffin's real name, I'm going to change the subject by telling them "You think that's weird. . . I know this guy whose five-year old son is named Lenny Kravtiz *Smith. I shit you not. Oops! Earmuffs!"
*totally fake last name.
This song always reminds me of the Gap Jeans commercial that Lenny did with Sarah Jessica Parker. Which, of course, always reminds me of the Best. Gap. Commercial. EVER.
The Airborne Toxic Event - Does This Mean You're Moving On?
This L.A. band is appearing at a music festival that I'm going to next month, and truth be told I'm a lot more excited about seeing them than I am about the headliner - The Offspring, who I don't think have done anything noteworthy since Self-Esteem. Hopefully the henna tattoo booth will still be open during their set so I can get something to tide me over until Lemon and I get matching tats on our bums.
The Rapture - Echoes
Bonus! Just because it was next on the Zune and I'm in the mood for something that sounds like it could be Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols on vocals, but isn't. By the way, this song is in the movie Superbad (but it's not on the soundtrack). And it's one of those songs that you'll either love or hate. Guess which side of the fence I'm on? The price is whaaaat?? Unhh!
Musicians: they've got bills to pay, they've got mouths to feed, and there ain't nothing in this world for free (except that Etta James song up there.) Love it? Don't steal it - buy it. Danke.
